a placeless place
Synopsis:
An 'outsider' discovers a mysterious 'being' wandering in an unknown realm. Through dreams and visions, the 'outsider' finds a gateway to the realm and navigates this bizarre new world 'of other spaces'.
Words on the Film:
"Being a spiritual successor to my earlier work titled 'Of Other Spaces', the film is an episodic representation of an imaginary order, or 'a placeless place' as I'd like to call it, which sprouted from an obsession to see myself "there where I am absent". This film is not just a personal exploration but also a meditation on the universal longing for utopia. The film could best be described as a union of disjointed spaces and suspended time that portrays the ultimate flowering of love in a vast expanse of heightened madness."
-Sibi Sekar
A placeless place, a timeless time, an egoless ego... After jumping into the void, is it ‘voidlessness’ that follows? And can it be portrayed? Through a character of ‘outsider’ (Kamali), Sibi Sekar continues his quest across the innermost depths – an unknown realm where universal truth manifests itself in poignant absences. Obscure visions – of a forestless forest, a fieldless field, and a roomless room – pose as the verses of a calm-inducing poem, one in rhymeless rhymes, filling the air with melancholy that stems from existential longing. The film ceases to be a conscious hallucination, as its author strives to transfigure it into a dreamless dream of a dreamer hopelessly enamored of the mystery’s soul.
